AVONDALE SPRING MEETING.
INAUGURAL DAY'S SPORT.
Evebtthisg points \o a very successful- inauguration of the Avondale Jockey Club's Spring Meeting to-morrow in the event of fine weather prevailing. The race track at the western suburb is in capital condition, and the various enclosures have never previously been seen to quite so much advantage, while 'ihe appointments are all in that trim and orderly state which has always been a feature at the western suburb racecourse. The prospects of a highly interesting afterneon's sport are quite trseured. and the programme will be run off IB the following order:—Maiden Plate Handicap, six furlongs: Grey Lynn Handicap Hurdle Race. Vwo miles; Avondale Stakes, four furlongs: Avondalo Cud Handicap, one mile and aquarter: Henderson Handicap, seven furlongs- Hack Welter Handicap, one mile one furlong: Flying Stakes Handicap, six furlongs: Islington Welter Handicap, one mile and one furlong. Special trains are announced by the Railway Department, particulars of which will bo found set forth in an advertisement appearing in another column. TRAINING NOTES. AT ELLERSLIE. Before the breakfast hour at headquarters yesterday some very interesting work was performed by Avondale candidates, though it was quite impossible to time many of the gallops, or even discern the horses taking part, owing to a heavy fog which hung over the courso for more Vhan an hour. After breakfast the work was mostly of the useful order only. One of the first to work was Blueatone, who traversed six furlongs from the move on the inside grass track in about lm 17s. . Plenipotent shaped well wfih. Jolie Fille and Last Call, running five furlongs in lm 6s. Monojack covered the last seven furlongs in lm 34 l-ss, with Lady Gwendoline shaping nicely in company over the last five furlongs. Glissando was doing better than Te Papa over five furlongs on the sand. Colonnade defeated Penroe over a sprint distanceRed Book covered a circuit of 'the sand in fair time. Eligible joining in in the last part of the gallop. The former was wearing a hood. Try Fluke and Loloma were together at the end of six furlongs on the inside grass. Castalia. went about a mile and a-quarter in fair time, and held Guiding Way safe. Royal Irish finished ahead of El Gallo and Toreador in order over seven furlong* of 'the sand. Loyal Arch was going better than Prince Soult at the close of a sprint. Kaween galloped half a mile in company, and was going easy at the close. Pandoon hit out nicely in his work. Chime beat the Bunyan representative tn Coleman's stable over 'three furlongs on the sand in 395. Soultane was not doing his best at 64a over half a mile. Makura covered five furlongs in fair time after dinner hour. Mossman. Goldfire, Coleraice. Harlestone, Brookfield, Kitty Bellairs, Tripoli. AH Delayal. Mummer, Gold Necklet, Analogue, Kidderminster. Glittering Sands. Takanini, Lucitana. Black Northern, and Heiro all worked satisfactorily. Appin cleared the steeplechase obstacles on the flat in good style, while Dunrobin was schooled over hurdles. The two-year-olds were exercised the reverse way* round on the juvenile track, though none was sent against time. P. Jones's pair and Independence were indulged in barrier practice.
AT'AVONDALE. Lady General (General Romola), a Stakes candidate, was sent over half a mile in company with. Multifual. Rew&nca. a big upstanding grey of 16 hands lm. Rooked anything but' at her best, and evidently doss not thrive well away from home. . After working, Potoa did not walk away too freely. Ritasca disposed of Lady Elysian. Uncle XSed. and Kick's two-year-old over three furlongs m S8 2-ss. Glenroy ran five furlongs in fair time. gas stable companions. Crown Pearl and Royal Anns, are also at the suburb. Kmg Lupin and Rekanui sprinted half a mile. Tincnai, looking particularly bright, moved nicely over a middle distance. Goldsixe and Gold Lac indulged in useful work only over a couple of rounds ***""-"ma was sprinted twice in his work, while Flonnu * la was not set against "the watch.
