THE COMING CARNIVAL.

EFFORTS OF BOWLERS.

RECONSIDERATION WANTED.

The Executive Committee of tie Auckland War Belief and Patriotic Association met yesterday. Mr. George Elliot presiding.

Considerable discission toot place concerning the proposed carnival. Ultimately an organising committee, -with. Mr. Elliot as chairman, -was appointed, and •was given power to invite suggestions. The committee will report to the executive at a meeting to be held on Thursday. The following resolution was passed by the executive :— That argent representation be made to the bowlers of the .Auckland Province, pointing out that if they subscribe £5000 to £10,000 for the purpose of equipping convalescent homes m the province they will therebv divert money from the" much-needed funds required for giving personal assistance to our gallant sons who have returned incapacitated from the front, and devote the money to unnecessary work which, on the asmxance of the Minister for In-

tersal Affairs, will be undertaken by the Government. That the committee further ask them to reconsider the matter, and invite their officials to meet the executive to discuss any points.**

The meeting decided to ask the Mavor, Mr. J. H. Gunson, and Mr. C. J. Farr, CSLG., MP. for Eden, and Mr. Wesley Spragg to represent the association at the conference of patriotic committees to be held in Wellington shortly. The Dominion Picture Company offered to donate to the fond one day's takings. It was decided to organise "a "picture day" at all theatres throughout the province.

Mr. W. R. Holmes, who was recently appointed auditor to the association, reported having made his first audit, and forwarded his certificate. The executive accorded Mr. Holmes a hearty vote of thanks for his services.

In reply to an inquiry by the executive a letter was received stating that the proceeds from the sale of the "Countess of Liverpool's Gift Book" would be divided between all the centres of Xew Zealand.
