SPORTS PROTECTION.

YEAR'S WORK OF LEAGUE.

The annual meeting of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Sports Protection League was held yesterday afternoon at the league's office, Durham Street, Mr. J. Rowe, chairman, presiding. There was a good attendance.

The report of the committee stated that it was part of the policy of the league to ascertain the views of candidates who offered themselves for election to the House of Representatives. With this object in view the board of control framed questions, which were submitted to each candidate at the last general election. Of those) selected 67 gave answers that were distinctly favourable. They might now look forward to sporting interests being much more favourably received by Parliament than had been the case in the past. Never in the history of the Dominion had matters connected with, sport been better.

In moving the adoption of the report, the chairman said that since its formation the league had never looked back. Its object had always been the furtherance of good, clean sport. It was anxious to help any form of sport that might require any assistance it could give.

In conclusion, Mr. Rowe said the branch had under consideration the necessity of providing an athletic park somewhere in Hobson Bay when the reclamation works were finished. The . growing needs of Remuera, and possibly the new garden suburb of Orakei, made it imperative that provision of this nature should be provided there.

The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, the Mayor (Mr. 0. H. Gunson); vice-presidents, the Hon. E. Mitchelson, Lieutenant-Colonel . Hazard, Messrs. C. J. "Parr, M.P., Murdoch McLean, J. Rowe, R. Allen-Bent, J. E. Cooke, M. Foley, A. Cleave, W. G. Leatham, H. R. Mackenzie, D. Gallagher, A. M. Myers, M.P., R. D. Lusk, T. B.
