The Taniwha Soap Manufacturers stale in their advertisements in the HESAIiO and Star that wo ari attempting to give the public the impression that they are insisting upon an exorbitant profit being made on the above soap by the retailers, during the war. We disclaim entirely any such, endeavour or purpose, and have never openly stated sura or even implied it. What we do eay is that the Taniwha Sosy Manufacturer*, by virtue of their terms and general instructions to wholesale distributors, have stopped our supplies. Spei-Sc instructions may not have been given to this effect, but their general instructions effec-. this purpose in all cases where the soap 13 retailed at less than a price laid down by the Manufacturers. The principle that a manufacturer should have the power to fix a retail selling price is one to which wo strongly object. We claim that once goods have been bought and paid for by us, no matter from whom, to have a right to do what we please with them, and should we even go so .far as to give them away, it is no concern of anybody's but our own. We admit that wo are selling Taniwha Soap at cost. We do this in retaliation for what we consider to be an unwarrantable interference with our method of doing business, and we shall continue to take this same course with any manufacturer who dictates selling prices or attempts to apply coercive measures to us. The. position to-day is this:—Retailers a*e hedeed round by manufacturers and combinations, with a ring of tariffs »t which he must buy. and at which he must sell We leave it to the Public and the Workers to judge if this sort of thing works out in their interests. We understand that the law sup ports the manufacturer in fixing a selling price for his goods- If our information on the point be correct, then the sooner the law is amended and it be made illegal for manufacturers to fix retail seeing prices, then the better for the whole community. If this were done a very appreciab l ■ difference would be made in the cost of living, despite the war. Raiding rats, marauding mice, Mummified at little price. "RAf SPOOF—One box 7d. two la 1«. per
