ZEPPELIN RAIDS.
The statement ; of the First Lord of tho Admiralty, explicit and candid within ~ tho : bounds .-, of discretion, should serve ;to place tho Zeppelin raids in .;■ their proper perspective. ■No' soldier or sailor has. been hurt by falling wmbs, and only once has damage ot the smallest military importance been wrought. I\*o more complete disclosure of tho in* efficiency of the Zeppelin as a military weapon could be made. .At the same time Zeppelins have been responsible for the murder of 7) civilian adults and 18 children, and the maiming of 169 civilian adults and 31 children. The Zeppelin, like the submarine, lias failed to decrease the security of Britain and is no longer used for the legitimate purposes of war, but has become art instrument of the foul German hate which revels in the slaying of women and children. As in the ease of the - submarine it is paying heavy toll in its lawless excursions. The explanation given by Mr. Balfour of official reticence is perfectly satisfactory.' The publication of full information would assist the enemy and would help him to evade punishment. Behind a screen of secrecy such effective measures have been taken to fight submarines that Germany is apparently .', willing to call them in. Wo may rest assured that.no less stringent precautions are taken- to destroy raiding Zeppelins, and we can-afford; to be well content with such partial information a3 the authorities may from time to tiino make public.
