KITCHENER'S ASSURANCE. QUIETING LABOUR'S FEARS. (Received August 27. 10.10 p.m.) London, August 27. Earl Kitchener, replying to an inquiry by the labour organisation, said that there was no ground for the allegation that the national register would be used to indirectly introduce conscription.
CONTROVERSY CONDEMNED. LEAVE IT TO KITCHENER. London, August 26. Lord Hugh Cecil, in a letter to the press, appeals for a discontinuance of the National Service controversy. He says it is incredible folly to destroy the unity of the nation by a new division on the question of whether National Service i 3 necessary. He says the point can well be left to Lord Kitchener and his colleagues.
