FACTORY CONDITIONS SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS. ,[bt telegraph.—press association-.] Wellington-. Thursday. Representatives of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Boot Manufacturers' Association interviewed the Hon. A. M. Myers, Minister in Charge of Munitions and Supplies, in reference to the allocation of orders to fulfil the Department uf Defence requirements, and also to the kind of boot most suitable for men engaged in military work. It was suggested that a proportion of orders for army boots be allocated to Wellington, and that the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Boot Manufacturers' Association should deal with the orders and decide who amongst the members should supply the Department's requirements. Reference was made to the varying samples at present complied with by various manufacturers. The desirability for uniformity of sample and the standardising of lasts was urged by the deputation. The local inspection in the factories during the couise of manufacture instead of the inspection of the finished article at the store in Wellington, was also submitted to the Minister as being an advantage both to manufacturer* and to the Government.
