SLANDER AGAINST TROOPS.
M.P.'S ALLEGATIONS. (Received August 27, 1.30 a.m.) Melbovhxe August 26. In the House of Representatives Mr. Fisher, referring to the statements made by Mr. Brennan. a member of the House of Representatives, said he deplored them as reflecting upon the honour of Australians. They were calculated to degrade in the eyes of the people troops fighting our battles. He declined to believe a statement, alleged to have been made by Mr. Rrennan, that there were Australians -walking about Melbourne who would cut a throat for sixpence.
Mr. Frank Brennan, who is a member of lie House of Representatives for Victoria, speaking under the auspices of the Peace Alliance, is reported to have made disparaging reference to the Australians on Gallipot!. He said British jingoes "ere fond of reviling the German Junkers, but there were linkers even in Australia, called military bounders- Atrocities, he said, were inevitable in war. for the military business was the onlv one that did not require references.
