major statham killed. A PRIVATE REPORT. [BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] Christchcrch, Monday. Private advice lias been received that - j'ljor Frank Stathani. of Dimedin, was killed in action at Gallipoli on August 7. -Major Statham was born in 1879, and, alter being educated at private schools, went to the -Morningtmi school and from there to the Otago Boys' High School. «Oer lie completed the mining course at Utago i University. Major Sat ham was well known in athletic circles. His brother w Mr. C. E. Statham, M.P. "hen the Otago Infantry Battalion was mobilised, lie volunteered and was posted as second in command of the 10th (North utago) Company. Ho was through all the severe fighting in the early days of the landing at Gallipoli, and on Mav 4 J'as promoted to the rank of major. 'He F p* cf 'widow-— daughter of Colonel TK.
