The following is a translation of the proclamation issued by General Sir lan Hamilton at the end of Mav 7 assuring the civilian inhabitants at the Ijaradnclips that the allies '' have come to their country as the rescuers of a crushed people '' :— "The military forces of the allied I ers have lieen obliged to occupy some portions of your country in order to save you front the hands of those persons who have attempted to place you under the dominion of a foreign Power, treading lihdeiioot the honour of your couiiirv. \ our top es by land are crushed, your forces by sea are imprisoned in their "bar bouts and reclined to impotence, your treasury is empty, and famine and d'e.sti tut ion v.-ill reign throughout your land and reduce you all to misery. The Coyernments of Kngland and France, under whose administration are millions of lives, have come to your assistance in order to | assure you the prosperity and happiness j which is enjoyed by your coreligionist* '1 here is no need to fear : your honour live,-, and property are safe. With the last object in view the following proclamation has been issued : — "1. The village administration will bo in the hands of the village as before. 1 here ill be no interference ith vour private affairs. 2. In order that your women m;iv move freely about a portion of the market place has been set aside for local inhabitant •'3. In order to avoir) regrettable incidents sentries will be placed in the western quarters. "4. Women can go freely to the market place from to ' — "5. Nobody must leave their house between sunset and sunrise. "6. Those who wish to sell to soldiers ,mi<t apply to . who wiLl fix the price at which the Root's are to be sold. 7 Whoever has cause for complaint should state his caw to the Mnkhtar. '8.
