MONEY FOR BELGIUM.
AUCKLAND CONTRIBUTIONS. OVER SIXTY THOUSAND SENT. A special appeal. ca behalf of Belgian orphans was recently received by tho Acting-Consul for Belgium, Mr. Robert. Burns, and the sum of £SCOO was forwarded to tho Orphan Fund from Auckland. Yesterday Mr. Bums received from tho Consul-General for Belgium in London the following cablegram—Received through High Commissioner splendid siim £5000 for Belgian Orphan Fund. Heartiest thanks to generous population. Auckland gift will greatly contribute to the welfare of orphans." Tho monthly contribution of £1325 from the Auckland Province. was sent to Wellington yesterday. This was tho August donation, and makes tho total amount renutted to Wellington to date £6625. Prior to tho Government agreeing to subsidise local contributions for Belgian relief a sum of £42.500 was remitted to Sydney, and was added to the Australasian fund, Including the £5000 forwarded 'to the' Belgian Orphan Fund, and the £6625 Government subsidy, the total amount paid from the Auckland Provincial Belgian Relief Fund is now £60,750.
