NEW ZEALAND AEROPLANES.
Sir.—A cable published in the Hebalt. recently announced that the British Government is in urgent need of an unlimited number of aeroplanes. Now, in New Zealand we have manv capable engineers and mechanic?. VVe "hare re<*ntly had absolute proof that it is possible to build an aeroplane in Auckland, so why can we not get to work without any further delay i.id build a number of machines for the front ? If we wer» only abfe- to make sufficient for the use of our own contingents it would be some help to the Empire at a time when help is _ urgently needed, but. if the people of this country are really in earnest in their desire to render assistance, and I can hardly believe that those gone and going to the front are our only patriots, we ought to be able t" do very much ruor#than that The main difficulty, no doubt, would l>e the manufacture of suitable, engines, but difficulties are only made to be overcome by those who wish to do so. and if quite unable to produce engines locally, we should be able to procure them from America in a few weeks' time. However. I am neither an engineer nor a writer, but hope that, having put forward the suggestion, it will be acted upon by those capable of doing so. and the idea rapidly*carried to a successful corclusion.
