LOCAL BODIES MEETINGS.

DEVONPORT BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Devonport Borough Council met hist night, when the following members were present:— Mayor. Mr, A. M. Pickford, Messrs. J. Woo'dall, W. K. Howitt, J. A. Walker, F. L. Armitage, T. Lamont, P. M. McCallum, J. Henderson, C. J. Smith, and A. Nixon.

Mr. Peter Ellis wrote to the council protesting against the proposed increase of the ferry fares. The Mayor said that this matter was now being considered by the North Auckland. Municipal Association. •' Mr. Henderson mentioned that the Birkenhead Council, at its last meeting, had strongly advocated a municipal ferry service. .- ; The Mayor said that all the bases of the ferry services would be ealt with exhaustively in due course. The engineer .reported that the approach to the recently-constructed addition to the DevonporVs; had been completed. Ther work consisted of! building a short" retaining wall, and some piling. The whole area, up to the roadway, had been metalled with hard metal, on a handpacked foundation of scoria boulders.

• . EPSOM ROAD BOARD. ; The Epsom Road Board met last evening. .There were present :—Messrs. F. H. Wood (chairman), E. Clay, H. Frost, J. B. McFarlane, R. G. Clark. • ! : The tender of Samuel Gordon, Dominion IRoad, 'of £544 7b .Bd, for the construction of a sewage pumping station at Epsom, was accepted. Mr. H. H. Metcalfe was present, and in answer to the chairman said that, electric motors and compressors were on the site. • The chairman and Mr. McFarlane were deputed to make arrangements with the City Council for the supply of electric power for the station. Mr. Metcalfe I stated that' the station would be in working order in four months, -v A letter was received from the Auckland j Automobile Association, suggesting; that ' the board adopt by-laws uniform with other 'bodies for-the regulation of motor traffic. I The matter was-referred to Messrs. .Clay and McFarlane for. a report.v.^vIn accordance with notice given, the chairman moved.that a general rate of Id, a hospital and charitable aid rate of l-6d, and a drainage rate of 3-16 d in the £ be levied on the, capital value of all ratable property in the district. It was resolved to approach the One-tree Hill Road Board, with a view to making arrangements for the carrying off of \ the storm-water on < Mount St, John Avenue, Ranfurly Road, and Epsom Road. \

. EDEN TERRACE BOARD, x Last .night's meeting "of the Eden Terrace Road Board was attended by Messrs. P. McElwain, in the chair, A. G. Blakev, P. T. Birch, R. P. Smith, H. A. Good, Geo-. Croft, and J. W. Andrew.

. It was decided to comply with the request of the district railway engineer, who asked that the sum of < £13 10s, the boaid's contribution towards the cost of a. footway across the railway reserve, be forwarded-

The .chairman reported that he and Mr. Smith had inspected tho streets in the board's district, and discussed their condition in detail.
