Despite the Austrians*. favourable geographical position, they are upon the defensive, and are collecting all' the available troops for the protection of their forts. / The Italians' first task is the capture :of dominating positions.. The opening phase of the Italian advance has developed most fortunately, and they now hold the most important Alpine passes on- the Trentino, Cadore, and-Friuli frontiers. They have succeeded in breaking the Austrians' resistance at some points.
