AUCKLAND FRENCH CLUB.
The fortnightly meeting of the French Club was held on Tuesday evening in the Society of Arts Building. Cubing Street, under the presidency or Mods. L. J. Duflou. Several new numbers were elected. The first item en the programme was a debate, " Le feme, est-ellc egalc a l'liomme?" The debute was opened by Mr. T. Gresliam in the affirmat ve, and Mr. S. I. Clarke in the negative, followed bv Miss Outliwaito ami Alessr*. Elliott, \Vyllie, Colnett. Hall, mid Saycj-li. The president, in a witty i-iid sparkling speech, summed up the arguments iked by the debaters, and pointed out the advantages to be derived from a debate of this natere from the linguistic side, especially by the younger members of the club. The second Item was an excellent mitati'Ui by Mr. A. Wyllie of a humorous passage from Alphonse hamlet's '.veil known work.. ■' Tartnr'n He Tarascon."
