The National Congress, at the first ballot, elected Senor Theophilo Br?.ga as l President of the Republic by 98 votes to 1. Senor Braga a a historian and a litterateur. He is the author of 200 volumes. Senor Theophilo Braga was for a short period Provisional President of Portugal, on the fall of the monarchy, in 1910. He was succeeded by Dr. Manoel Arriaga on August 24, 1911.
