COMING BY-ELECTIONS.
BAY OF ISLANDS SEAT.
CANDIDATES NOMINATED.
[BY telegraph.—own correspondent.] Kawakawa, Sunday. The nominations were received of Messrs. George Gardiner Menzies and William Stewart, as candidates for the Bay of Islands seat at tho forthcoming by-election.
Though the politicians are active, little interest has so far been manifested by the electors. Both parties have their officials working hard in organising thenrespective supporter?. The Reform Party in tho electorate has never been so well organised as now, and the leaders are very sanguine of an overwhelming success. The Opposition Party has improved its organisation, but it is admitted that the" party lacks the coherence of tho Government supporters. ■ The Hon. A. L. Herdman, Minister for Justice, and Messrs. 'Mander, -J. G. Coates and Vernon Reed, M.P.'s, are assisting the Government candidate, and Sir Joseph Ward, Messrs. G. Witty, J. T. M. Hornsby, and W. D. S. MacDo'nald are speaking on behalf of the Opposition nominee. Mr. Stewart has received very flattering receptions in his Northern tour, and as a result of his meetings his position in Hokianga and Mangonuihas been greatly strengthened.
