[Br telegraph.— correspondent.] *: \ Thames, Sunday. The principal work 'in progress in the New Sylvia mine is the development of the main reef at the low level. The reef has been driven upon in a southerly direction from tie shaft for a distance of 70ft, and a rise is now being put up, at this point on the reef, to connect with the Battery level 134 ft above. This rise is now up 40ft abovo tho low level, and the lode is • being broken out for the full width of tho rise. Tho quartz is of .good grade; South-west of the shaft a leading stope has been carped along ov«v the drive for 180 ft, and this is still producing payable ore. At a point 60ft south of the shaft a crosscut has been driven through the reef, proving it to be about 24ft wide. The stope is being carried along on the reef from this point for a width of 14ft on the hangingwall, which is all that can be conveniently taken in one stope. The other 10ft of the foot wall will have to be taken out afterwards in a separate stope. . Theso workings are producing a good supply of payable ore, which is being treated at the battery. The cleamng-up for the past four weeks took place on Thursday last, the result being that 876 tons of ore were treated for- a yield of bullion and concentrates of the value of £1234.

The following are the dredging returns for the past week 'Electric 11,, 116 ob Bd\vt; Rise and Shine 1., 60oz sdwt; Golden Bed, 250z 3dwtj Electric L, 24o;; 14dwt; Rising Sun, 220z 14dwt; Willowbank, a!9oz 15dwt; Rise and Shine 11., 19oz 6dwt.
COMMONWEALTH RETURNS. The gold yield of New South Wales for April was 17,2170z crude, equal to 13,1570z fine, valued at £55,886, as compared with !10,3230z crude,- equal to 84670z fine, valued at £35,5167, for the same month in 1914. The yield for the first four months of this year amounts to 68.7990z crude, equal to 52,9860z fine, valued at £225,071, as compared with 53,3220z (rude, equal to ,2500z fine, valued at £187,964, for the same period in 1914, thus showing an increase of 87360z fine, and £37,107 in value.
The yield of gold in Victoria in the month of April was 27,1550s gross or 1 25,4930z fine, valued at £108,287. Til's is ; a decrease of 59920z fine as compared with I the yield for April of last year. . The re-1 turn for tho first four months of 1914 was 112,74407. gross, or 104,6010z fine, valued at £444,318, Compared with the quantity won during the correspond ins; period of last year, a decrease of 28,8240z fine has occurred. , The gold yield of Wfs(" Australia for ! April Amounted to 102,6090z. valued at £435,855, as compired with 93,7640z, I valued at £398,285, for , March, and 99,0070z, valued at £420,554, for April of last year. Tho gold yield of Queensland for April amounted to 22,951 fine oz, valued at £97,490, as compared with 18,587 fine oz, valued at £78,952, for April, 1914, showing an increase of .4364.; fine oz, and £18,538 in value. For first four months of the year tho yield was 76,635 fine' valued at. . £325.525, as compare! with 70,011 fine oz, valued at £297,388, for the corresponding period last year/ Dividend® paid m April amounted to £2000 for the X l '" „?° ntlls dividends have amounted to £67,070, as against £54,925 last vear, the increase being £12,145. f *
