NINE DEATHS RESULT FROM WOUNDS AND ILLNESS. LONG LIST OF OFFICERS AND MEN WOUNDED. , TOTAL RECORD OF CASUALTIES EXTENDED TO 874. Two lists of casualties in the New Zealand expeditionary force were issued by the Defence Department yesterday. They contain the names of 10 officers and 151 men, of which 147 appear for the first time. The sixteenth list, issued yesterday afternoon, reports that two Canterbury officers and five men, of whom three men had previously been reported as wounded, have died from wounds, and two men, of whom one was already reported as ill, have died from appendicitis. Two Auckland officers, already reported as founded, and eight men, five of whom had previously been reported, are now stated to be dangerously ill. Sis other officers and 98 men are reported as wounded. The fact that one of these officers had been wounded was reported in yesterday's Herald, private advice having been received by his father. The men now reported to be wounded are distributed as follows :-Auckland, 47; Wellington, 6; Canterbury, 15; Otago, 33. The seventeenth list issued late last evening contains the names of 22 men of the Wellington Battalion and 16 of the Otago Battalion, ,who have been wounded. The total number of casualties reported since the operations against Turkey were commenced is 874. Fifteen officers and 36 men have been killed in action, three men have 'died from disease, two officers are missing, and 44 officers and 774 men have been wounded. Burnard was lance-sergeant in the 14th platoon, D Company, of the Canterbury Battalion when the force was despatched from the Dominion. Ho has since received a commission. Lieutenant F. D. Maurice was 24 years of age. Prior to joining the expeditionary force ho was one of the masters at the Waimate District High School. He had a brilliant educational career at the Timaru High School and Canterbury College. An enthusiastic hockey player, he was a member of the executive of the South Canterbury Hockey Association. Lieutenant Maurice's father resides in London. Major T. H. Dawson was born in Auckland and educated at King's College. Ho joined the College Rifles when the corps was formed in 1897, and left it to join the Fourth Contingent for the war in South Africa as a sergeant-major. During the progress of the war he received a commission in the Border Regiment. Ho holds the Queen's Medal with three clasps and the King's Medal with two clasps. Shortly after the closo of the war Major Dawson resigned his commission and returned to Auckland. Since then, and until his departure last year, Major Dawson has practised as a solicitor. He rejoined the College Rifles with the rank of lieutenant, being promoted to captain on December 5, 1906. When the expeditionary force was mobilised ho was transferred from the command of the Divisional Signal Company to the 3rd, Auckland, Regiment, with the temporary rank of major, and given command of the company drawn from that regiment. Held in high esteem in military circles, Majir Dawson is also widely popular in athletics. He was a member last year of thJ Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union and president of the College Rifles Football Club, and the present patron of the latter club. . A cable message was received from Major Dawson yesterday stating that he is progressing favourably. Captain K. M. Gresson is a brother of Mr. M. Gresson, a Christchurch solicitor, and was himself reading for the law. Captain Gresson is 23 years of ago. Yesterday his brother received the following cablegram from him: "On board hospital ship; progressing." '

Lieutenant J. B. Macfarlane is tho eldest son of Mr. J. B. Macfarlane of Gillies Avenue, Epsom. On Thursday Mr. Macfarlane received a cablegram from his son advising him that he had been wounded, and this is now.confirmed by the official casualty list

Privato Ralph Guy was a native of Surrey, England. For some years he was a student at the Sacred Heart College, Auckland, and in 1913 ho left for the Waikato to engage in farming. Sapper E. 0. Ruddock is the second son of Archdeacon David Ruddock of Nap.er. He was educated at St. John's College, Auckland, and was studying medicine a Edinburgh University when the war began. He enlisted in the British content of New Zealanders.
