An official communique states: "British and French forces in South Gallipoli, supported by the fleet, delivered a general attack on the evening of May 8 on Turkish positions which had been penetrated on the 7th. The troops with remarkable dash and vigour carried several lines of trenches and a height adjoining Krithia with the
bavonet. " "During the 9th they fortified themselves on the ground von The Turks did not attempt to counter-attack."
