RESPONSE FROM THE PROVINCE.

It has now been found that the result of the campaign to obtain socks for the Auckland section of the troops has exceeded all the expectations of the members of the Ladies' Patriotic Committee. About 7000 pairs of socks have been sent to the Town Hall, and sufficient money has been forwarded to purchase another 7000 pairs. The former Mayoress, Mrs. C. J. Parr, originally made an appeal for 6000 pairs. The following are some of the further contributions to the "sock fund " :- Mrs. A. K. To each of the troops the ladies of the Patriotic Committee arc also sending a card, " Wishing good luck to our dear boys at the front, from the women and children of Auckland."
