MR. AND MRS. J. C. MACKY.

SON SAFE IN LONDON.

A cablegram was received last night/by Mr. T. Macky from the London office of Messrs. Macky, Logan, Caldwell, Ltd., stating that Mr. Jack Macky had arrived safely in London. It is presumed that lie travelled by an earlier steamer than the Lcsitania. The message holds out little hope for the safety of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Macky, the young man's father and step-mother, who loft Now York on the Lusitania on her last voyage.

Mr. J. C. .Macky. who was born in Auckland 60 years ago, was the elder son of the late Mr. Thomas Macky, his brother being Mr. T. Macky, of Commerce Street. Mr. J. C. -Macky was one of the best known and most highly-respected residents of Auckland, where he has been in business for between 30 and 10 years as the senior partner, from its inception, of the well-known firm which commenced business under the name of Macky, Logan and Co., and which is now being conducted under the stvle of Macky, Logan, Caldwell, Ltd. Mr. Macky always took a keen interest in local public affairs and for several years he occupied the position of Mayor of Devonport where he resided for many years and where he enjoyed tho confidence of tho residents to a marked degree.

Mr. Macky took a warm interest in patriotic and defence matters, and wa6 one of tho founders of the National Defence League, of which he was a vicepresident from the time of its inauguration until it ceased operations on the introduction of tho universal training system. He was also a member of the General and Finance Committees of tho Auckland Patriotic League, which raa formed on the outbreak of the war in August last. Mr. Murky was a most enthusiastic yachtsman, and was a trustee, as well as a member, of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Ho was the owner of tho yacht Ilex, and formerly owned tho Rainbow. Ho was also a supporter of the temperance movement. Both Mr. and Mrs. Macky were members of tho Auckland Unitarian Church.

Mr. Macky was twice married. His first wife was formerly Miss Kennedy, daughter of Dr. Kennedy, of Auckland. There were two eons and one daughter of this marriage, tho sons being Messrs. Thomas and Jack Macky, and the daugh-

tor Mrs. Jellio, wife of the Rev. W. Jellie, who was formerly in charge of the Auckland Unitarian Church, and who is now residing at Southport, England. Mr, Macky's second wife was formerly Miss Hindi, of Melbourne. Their family consists of three eons and a daughter. One of the sons is Dr. F. Macky, of the Auckland Hospital staff, and another is Dr. S. Macky, of Hamilton.

Mr. and Mrs. Macky paid a visit to England in 1913 and returned last year. They left on their last trip by the Niagara on March 26. with Mr. jack Macky, and on reaching Vancouver they visited the United States and took passage by the Lnsitania from New York on that vessel's ill-fated voyage.

The Waitemnta Ladies' Golf Cub, on account, of tho anxiety felt regarding the fate of Mr. and Mrs. J. Maekv, lias decided to postpone the match which wae to have been held to-day. Mrs. Macky was a prominent member of tho club, in which she look a keen interest.
