In the House of 'Commons, Dr. McNamara, Secretary to the Admiralty, admitted that a gunner had fired a torpedo on a destroyer anchored at Newport, Monmouth, while explaining the mechanism to some ladies who were visiting the vessel. It was not noticed that the firing charge had not been removed. Disciplinary measures had been taken to prevent a recurrence. The torpedo narrowly missed an Italian steamer, and struck the side . of the dock.
