TOTAL TO DATE, £2.444,162.

Dunixc the month of April the Talisman Consolidated Gold .Alining Company crushed and treated 3110 tons of ore for a yield of bullion valued at £16,114 10s 9d. The costs for the month totalled 53s 9d per ton, made up as follows:—Mine development, 21s Id; mining 16s8d; milling, 12s lid ; general expenses, 3s Id.

The small tonnage treated is due to the mine and mill being stopped, owing to accidents, on March 31 and April 25. Compared with the figures for the corresponding period of last year, the present return shows a decrease of £6483 15s 3d. The total amount of bullion won from the mine to date is £2,444,162 lis 9d, as shown in the following table of details: —

RISING SUN.

ERECTION OF BATTERY.

[BY telegraph.— OWN corresponded.]

Waihi, Monday,

The directors of the Rising Sun Gold Mining Company, whose mino is at Owharoa, visited the property on Saturday, and, after discussing details in connection with the battery with Mr. G. Gillram, who is supervising the work of erection, they went through the mine workings. The battery, the foundations for which are in hand, is to bo of 10 stamps, with a cyanide plant, and the power will bo supplied by suction gas. The completion of the plant is expected to occupy from four to six months, and when ready a start will be made to treat the ore from tho mine with five stamps, which should crush some 10 to 15 tons of quarto: per day. The remaining five head will be placed in commission when the reefs are sufficiently opened up, and the mire manager, Mr. T. Gillan, is of the opiniou that as soon as development work is placed on a comprehensive footing lie will experience no difficulty in winning sufficient ore to keep tho plant fully occupied. The reefs in the mine are comparatively small, but tho assay values given support the manager's contention that they can bo profitably stoped out over workable widths. In tl-o upper level the main work carried out has been on what is known as the tulphide lode, which runs from Ift to 4ft in width and averages about 2ft. It has been followed —mainly northfor 250f*. in payable ore, and from this level gives backs of about 150 ft. A winze sunk on the ore body has connected with a rise from the present low, or road, level, and the reef has lived down and maintained its values, tho distance between levels being 150 ft. At 60ft below the upper level tho lode was followed south for 60ft in pay ore, and a drive put out west picked up a new lode some 12in wide. This has been driven on 30ft north and its average value is £3 per ton. On the low level, development lias been principally on the No. 1 lode, an oxidised body of quartz cut about 2000 ft in from the mouth of the main crosscut. This has been followed for 210 ft, ami a few feet back from the north face the oxidised ore has given place to nice-looking mineralised quartz. A little sloping has also been done, and from the stope and the drive the assay values point to the reef yielding ore of payable quality. About 22ft north of the point of intersection of this lode ft branch strikes off east, its width being about 9in. and the values high. Tho branch has been driven upon for 125 ft. Other veins are known to exist in the mine, but have not so far i developed. Provided the reef system in the Rising Sun persists lining north and carries values, a bic block of country with ample backs remains to be opened up.

OCCIDENTAL CONSOLIDATED.

£325 FROM 72 LOADS OF ORE.

The manager of the Occidental Consolidated mine, Thames, reports that 1350z of bullion has been won from 72 loads of general ore treated. The return is valued at about £325.

GOLDEN BELT.

£204 FROM 98 TONS.

During the past week the manager of the Golden Belt mine, Nevesville, reports that the stopes over the No. 1 level have been producing good payable ore, and tho reef is looking well. The battery crushed 98 tons of ore during the week for a return of £204 14s 4d, from the plates only.

WAIOTAHI.

The manager of the Waiotahi mine, Thames, reports that the cleaning up of the old battery is being proceeded with.
