At the firM meeting of the newly-clccted Hamilt'n Borough Council Mr. J. K. Hammond Was appointed Deputy-Mayor. The petition of the Knox Street residents -.o grade that street to the level of Victoria S'riyt was referred to tho engineer for a repoit. The engineer was instructed to prepare plans for a new footbridge on the up-stream bide of the traffic bridge, and also to report ;u> to the moM. suitable site for a new bridge at tho northern end of the town above the present railway br,.i-c The Mayor reported that arrangement's had been made to raise tho whole ot the m-xiov required for tho Whitiora drainage scheme at 5 per cent. Plans were now being prepared, and tenders would shortly be called for the work. It v;ift decided to wait on the Prime Minister on his approaching visit to Hamilton and reijUCU him to give hi* consent, to tho proposed Mto far'th«> municipal abattoirs in oider tha: the erection may be proceded »i!h. The Mayor wa« requested to a-k the |>c-t;il authorities for an ex-Jp!i.-i"n o! hours at the pest office.
