JAPAN'S ULTIMATUM.

London, May 8. ' The Japanese ultimatum was ac- ! companied with an explanatory Note, in which Japan further modified her demands and repeated her offer to retrocede 'from Kiau Chau on the conditions previously offered. Japan now asks for a long lease of land in the south of Manchuria, and also permission to undertake agricultural enterprises in the eastern and inner regions of Manchuria. She insists on a settlement of the Yang-tse railways and the Fo Kien demands.
