WAIKATO RIVER SERVICE.
COMPETITION WITH RAILWAY. [BY TELEGRAPH. CORRESPONDENT.] Hamilton', Friday. At a meeting convened by the Chamber of Commerce of those interested in establishing a steamer service on the Waikato River there was an attendance representative of the territory from Mercer to Cambridge. A strong support was promised to the proposal. A xepresentativo Of tho Waikato Shipping Company was present, and the question of freights m compared with the railway rates, was discussed, a great saving being shown in favour of the river service. Agents were appointed for the various river ports with central agents at Hamilton and Cambridge respectively. It is expected that tho first cargo will be brought through next month. _. -
