NOTES ON THE RACING. [BT telegraph—own correspondent.] Hasuhgs, Friday. Beautiful weather was experienced for Hawko's Bay Cup day, and the going being good intestine racing resulted, except in the h'urd e events, which proved fiascos pure and simple; owing to the severe nature of the obstacle*, only the placed torses completed the. course ; In the Hack Hurdles, the favourite. Birkful. was one of the first ♦o fall. Deerey received injuries to one of his legs, while Traill, the rider of Brseburn, had an arm bruised, badly. ; Tho winnei Fagot hails from Gißbome, being by San Romo— Myrtyrfeldt. and was always out in front, fencing boldly. Golden Wator was no match for him,-but is hardly ready yet Vi looked the winner just before the straight entrance in the big hurdles, when. Sensitive assumed oommand. But a gap in the last fence caused trouble, for most of the corn-

! pefifors made for the-gap' Vi sited to 1 get the opening in time, and had to round the wing, but then defeated Master Tirsi in the run home. Sensitive's rider lost-con-trol of his irons at the obstacle," and coald only finish third, with Bo'lia fourth. After a lengthy inquiry Vi lost the race, which went to Master Timi," while' 4' dispute as to second honours over Sensitive and Bollia is being required into at, tin.6 of telegraphing. ' - -■ - Crosus looked a picture when ho went out to contest the Porangahau Handicap, and was made a warm favourite. He wan always one of the leaders, and won nicelj in the run home, though Dinner Gong showed somo pace, and nearly stolo the race by a fast run up on the rails at the close. Tete-a-tete had every show to win, while Centre made a big effort entering tho heme turn, but- coulu only finish fourth. Downhani looked well, and carried the support of his party, but could not go the pace sot. . Three won the Nursery in good style, ;noueh Rangitoto and Bonny Dream kept toe Welkin colt busy until tis straight was reached. Eligible was ono of the last to leave the mark, and therefore could make no impression. Maliegarde was victorious in the maiden event .only because of her superior condition, i.u «r rd ndmg on ltw a ''' of Ryan, and both Mossman and Stonier, who filled the Places, gave the favourite an anxious time in the run home. Stomer is a nice-looking ully. by Moral-Energy, and will be heard of again. , Pa P ulra led most of the way, and would bo improved with the race. " nt.ii result of the Cl, went to provo that Chortles win in the Awapuni Gold Cup Jos full of merit, for he defeated Balboa decisively to-day. after being one of tho tear division, with IS stable-mate, Multiply, until the last half-mile. Bon Revo and indigo were the leading division in front of Balboa and Mummer until entering tho Straight wheu Balboa gradually forced to the iront, to be loudly proclaimed. But a!! too early for inside the distance Chort!.. rushed through to the front and won decisively in good time, while Multiply headed Mummer off for third money. Indigo dropped back badly in the race to he post. . iwo good dividends were i.tunscd in th« i'ottkawa Hack, when Cervuhis and Marimla just gained the honours from Conri-ska. The "isborjie. people lost heavily ever the failures of Muitinticatton and King o' Athol, tho latter, who was rue of the last to fini.-ti being credited with running tho fastest halfmile before the meeting. Cervulus is a full brother 'o Alces, who won several racc3. Alter Dtavolo showed some pace for six furlongs in the Autumn Handicap. Ormonde candidate, Kjirnmohe. rushed through, and established a big lead in the straight. But Stewo made his effort too early, and could not sus'am a fast challenge by Allen Doom-, in the race to. the post. Sir Alba looked *&• ''" was giving away too much irei-Li. whut George was never seriously sighWd.
