A combatant who was engaged in the Neuve Chapelle battle relates that the final success Was largely duo to the dash of the Lincolnshires and Berkshires in the primary assault. Hand-grenades were thrown into the enemy's trenches, and caused many to surrender. The Germans were caught in a trap, and the Lincolnshires drove them across a strip of water sft deep, stretching along their front. The Lincolnshires lost seven officersfi including Colonel Macandrew, who was killed, and 298 men killed and wounded.
