CLAIM FOR £30. DUE ON PROMISSORY NOTE. A claim for £30 alleged to be due on a promissory note was brought by Frederick Leslie (Mr. R. Singer) against Robert Forbes Moore (Mr. J. F. Pullan) in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. The defendant was the endorsee of the note which had been given to plaintiff by William Gray,'iand which was payable four months aftor date. Plaintiff said that ho was carrying on business as the Central Finance Agency. He believed that he gave Gray £19 on the bill, on which ho had not been paid a single penny. Defendant said that he endorsed tho bill for Gray, but did not receive any cash. His defence was that he did not receive the statu, tory notice about the dishonouring of the bill. Mr. C. C. Kettle, S.M., held that there had been a waiver of notice on the defendant's part. Judgment for the amount claimed was entered for the plaintiff, a stay of execution for 14 days' being granted. RIVAL RESTAURANTS. Some time sgo Harvey Jiggens sold a restaurant in Federal Street to John Gregory, Thomas Nelson, and John Svitanovich. Jiggins undertook not to start a similar business in Auckland for two years, agreeing to pay £30 if he did. As he had started a restaurant in Victoria Street, he was sued for £30, and judgment was given against him with costs. Mr. J. F. Pullen appeared for the plaintiffs. l SALE OF A PIANO. Byron Squire and Co. (Mr. A. G. Quartley) claimed £33 Is 3d from Robert Ross, the money being due in respect to the sale of a piano. As the defendant did not appear judgment was given against him with costs.
