REMUERA'S INCLUSION. INCREASING THE COUNCIL | THE METHOD OF RATING The union of Remnera with tie (Jitr 0 f Auckland was mentioned at last evening meeting of the City Council. ° The Finance Committee stated that the Mayor had brought before it the question of comparative rates in Remnera and the city. As the proposal for a loan for Re. muera, in terms of the amalgamation agreement, is to be postponed until one vear after the war, it was resolved that" the rates be levied upon the present capital values in Remuera until 1917. Reference to the proposal that the total number of members of the council shank* be increased from 18 to 21, exclcsive <■{ the Mayor, on account of the ircrea«4 area now -within the citj's boundarijg -wag also made at the meeting. Mr. T L. Thompson moved, and it was agreed *'■ that a special meeting of the conadl should be held on March 4 to consider a motion to that effect. None of the present members of the Remnera Road Board ' will hold office as members of the City Council unless they are elected at tb elections on April 28. ' The only formality which has to be tried out to complete tbe union is the issuing of a Gazette notice by His Ei«l- flency the Governor. This fact wag men-n ticned yesterday by the town clerk, . Jfr '£ H. W. Wilson, who pointed out that the formalities to be observed in the case of the amalgamation of two boroughs were iioi necessary when the area to be added vaj a road district. Directly the union was'--gazetted it would come into effect.
