OUTBREAKS OF FIRE.
IN MANAWATU GORGE. BRIDGES IN DANGER. [BY TELEGRAPH. — -CRESS ASSOCIATION.] WoortvTLLK, Wednesday. A rcr.RCE wind, which blew all the afternoon, started bush fires in a block above the Manawatu Gorge. The fires quickly spread, and at the present time the bush in the gorge, the Domain, and both bridges are in "Sanger. LARGE BUILDING LOST. A fire in Gladstone Road late tonight gutted a two-storey building owned by the Brtdley estate and occupied by the Alexandra " Tearooms. Xvchariah. a tailor, Frorom. a stationer, and Hill, registrar of elect- .rs. The fire hricade made an excellent •' v.ve." preventing the tire from spreading to" "the Albion Hotel, which for some tune was in considerable danger, a strong weswrlv wind fanning the flames towards it. The National Bank's new building., tt> the vest of the burning building, escaped unscathed, as it did a few weeks ago trom a tr.e which destic-yed a sUtioner's shop on the other side of it.
