FAVOURABLE DAY ALONG THE WESTERN FRONT.
MILE OF TRENCHES CARRIED IN CHAMPAGNE. GERMAN BLOCKHOUSES CAPTURED ON LORRAINE FRONTIER Wellington. February 1" The High Commissioner reports from London on February 17: Paris reports that along the whole front the 16th was a favourable clay for the allies. Between the Oise and the Aisne, near Debailly. the allies shelled an assemblage of automobiles with effect. We have made progress in the Rheims region near Loivere. On the Champagne front, extending from the north-wrst of Perthes to the north of Beau Sejour, we captured a mile of German trenches and several hundred prisoners. North-west of Font a Mousson, on the Lorraine frontier, the allies carried several of the enemy's blockhouses in the Petre Forest.
An earlier message from the High Commissioner stated : Paris reports that th" British troops on Monday recaptured two sections of trenches lost on Sunday between Sainte Loi and the Ypres canal. Particularly important successes by the French artillery are confirmed. Paeis, February 17. An official communique states : We have had a favourable day along the whole front. The British mastered a number of trenches south of Ypres, where there has been serious fighting for several days. We captured a mile of trenches between Perthes and Beau Sejour, taking several hundred prisoners. We carried several blockhouses north-west of Pont a Mousson. on the Lorraine frontier.
