MINER PROVOKED.

Waihi, Tuesday. At today's sitting of the Magistrate's Court, before Mr. F. J. Burgess, S.M., a miner named F. Charters pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and offensive behaviour while travelling in a railway carriage between Paeroa and Karangahake. The evidence satisfied His Worship that accused had had strong provocation and lie dismissed the charge of offensive behaviour. *

A conviction was entered up on the charges of assault and Charters was ordered to pay costs.
