RAPID WORK AT GISBORNE.

Gisborne, Monday. Splendid progress is being made with blasting work in connection with the river improvement scheme, and the harbour engineer expects that the work will be completed well within the estimate. Blasting operations commenced about nine months ago, and all the rock in the. inner harbour has been blasted twice, to a depth of 16i"t below low-water mark.

A start has now been made •with the work <-» blasting the dredged portion to a depth of 23ft. Although the project has been mapped out for three years the workif the present rate of progress is maintained —will be finished well within that time.
