Referrinc to the matter at the-officii] opening of the park yesterday afternoon,* the Mayor. Mr. C. J. Parr, C.M.G., said that the City Council scheme in can-'..':. nection with it involved a jet policy. The Town Hall was cramped for spue, and it was intended to ultimately acquire the land lying between it and the nnti end of the park so that the buildings might be extended right up to the park ; area. For some months past he had felt that the park would be incomplete witt- .*; out some thoroughfare leading into it from -' Karangahape Road, where Mr. David"*; v Nathan's property intervened. He had ■ been- negotiating with Mr. Nathan, and-..-;. that morning matters had reached a suc-' - cessful issue. The revolt was completely ■~ satisfactory to the city. (Applause.) There would be a connection between the / park and Karangahape Road. 'Mtly Nathan had agreed to give a strip el,£" land through his property 20ft wide. ;? ,J. Nathan, whose family had been connected M • with the city from its earliest days—ha grandfather had started in business on ' the same site in Shortland Street where; ; Messrs. L. D. This area wo&, subject to Parliament's sanction, be added to the park, with the beautiful ferns and plants which • were growing in it. In Myers Pari eventually, therefore, the city would have a property of Immense value— today it was worth five times its value of . a year agostretching from Karangahape Road to the Town Hall.
