LANDS FOR SETTLEMENT.

RESULT OF BALLOT.

A ballot for 2474 acres of Crown lands on the renewable lease, and 9218 acres on the optional system, was held at the District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, yesterday afternoon. The ballot for the sections on the renewable leaso resulted as follows :—

Section 29, Block XL, Tokatoka S.D., 69a 3r 9p, 52 applicants, A. C. Simpson, Naumai. Section 86, Block XI., Tokatoka S.D.. 69a 3r lOp, 48 applicants, L, Ringrose, Te Kopuru.

Section 219, Karamu Parish, 550 a 3r 20p. 21 applicants, H. Johnson, Ngaruawahia.

Section 13, Block VII.. Kawakawa S.D., 406 a Or 16p, 1 applicant, D. D. Gilliand, Mangaweka. Section 5, Block VIII., Kawakawa S.D., 3 applicants, R. H. Brown, Auckland. Section 6, Block XII., Kawakawa S.D., 3 applicants, F. C. Mouli, Ohakune.

There were no applicants for several other sections offered.

800,000 ACRES TO BE OPENED.

Wellington, Thursday.

Dealing with land settlement, the Prime Minister said, in a speech at the Levin Show, that during the nrxt two months the Lands Department would be able to make available 800,000 acres of all classes of land in nearly every district in New Zealand. ■
