"INDORE" IN INDIA AND "INDORE" IN AUCKLAND.

Indore is a flourishing Mahratta Principality among a group of semi-indepen-dent States south of Rajputna. The capital, Indore, contains between 15,000 and 20,000 inhabitants, and though insignificant in many respects acquired considerable notoriety in the great revolt in 1857. Though the ruler liolkar remained faithful to the British Government his troops mutinied on the Ist July, and holding the Prince a prisoner in his own paJace, butchered many Europeans, men, vome 1, and children, in cold blood. Indore is peculiarly the country of the Bheels, the wildest and most savage of the aboriginal tribes of India. It is situated in the Maluatta country, a district which furnished the 110 th Mahratta Regiment, which has just rendered conspicuous service in the British operations against the urks in the Mesopatamia vallev, at the head of the Persian Gulf. Thouch nominally independent each native Principality is administered under the advice of a British Resident, and this policy has resulted in many of their States being governed in a most progressive spirit. The present capital is of modern erection, the older one, now Gemnah, exists on the opposite side of the river. The " Indore" in Auckland takes its name from the Indian city. A peaceful and delightful home. It is at the base of the Black Mountain cr Mount Eden.

After a lengthy visit to India and elsewhere it was a pleasurable experience to he introduced to Mr. and Mrs. Tucker and their daughter, who control the residential flats at " Indore," Mount Eden Road, and Prospect Rise. The courtesy and attention received could not be excelled anywhere during a world tour. So much is heard about other centres. Is there a better position in the whole of New Zealand ?

If you like exercise, a walk to the of the Mount is beneficial. On returning and entering the pate the well-kept, lawn and garden attract you. A garden in good order indicates that the inside of the establishment is well kept. You wa 1 ': up a pathway with blossoms on either side. You enter. What a blessing to be a clever owner !

Spotless? Yes! That is the Alpha and Onieea of "Indore." You can have your sitting and bedroom with kitchen etc. Comfortable compact homes within a house.

Are the people of New Zealand familiar with "Indore'" If not, rectify the oversight and come up and see how an up-to-date house is run. " Indore " is nearly always full. Beyond New Zealand its reputation is well and favourably known.

What pleases most is that " Indore" is furnished with Dominion and English goods. The plate and cutlery are from Shef. field; the mark being W. and H. on a flag. This is seen often wherever one travels.~and it represents the great firm of Walker and Hall.
