GERMANS IN DOMINION.

ALLEGATIONS AT MARTON.

MEETINGS IN SECRET

DENIAL BY GERMANS. [BY TELEGSAPH. OWN COREESPOXDENX] Mahton, Thursday. It has been currently reported that secret meetings of Germans are being held frequently in the Marton district. Excep-. tion has also been taken to the fact that services at the Lutheran Church are conducted in the German language. The position was discussed at a recent meeting of the Marton Defence Rifle Club, and a great deal of warmth was exhibited. It was suggested that efforts be made to secure the elimination of the German language from the service, but nothing definite was decided upon in regard to that matter. In respect to the alleged holding of secret meetings on the part of Germans a resolution was carried drawing the attention of the Minister for Defence to the allegation that the meetings were being held, and stating that they were likely to provoke a breach of the peace. The members of the German Committee deny she truth of the statements made. Mr. F. E. Palm, the master of the local German school, in defending the attitude adopted concerning the teaching at the school and the holding of church services in the German language, says that the church authorities would discontinue the services only with much regret r.wing to the number of old members who have not a thorough knowledge of the. English language. Ho says that at the German services prayers are offered up for the King and Government. As for teaching the German language in their school, thev would readily relinquish that if the authorities so desired.

Tn regard to the resolution sent to the Ministe- for Defence. Mr. Palm denies the accuracy of the statements made. He has expressed his intention of personally seeking an interview with the Minister and placing the facts before him. In the rreantime he calls upon all members of the Lutheran congregation to do nothing •which would tend to disprove their loyalty or their pacific disposition..
