ANOTHER EMDEN STORY.
ISLANDERS DECEIVED.
WRECKAGE OF THE RAIDER.
Sydney, January 21.
The officers of the steamer Clan Graham, from Mauritius, reports that while there news was received that the Emden had paid a visit to the British Islands of Diego Garcia, in the Indian Ocean, some 1400 miles east of Zanzibar. The islanders did not know that war had broken out, and Captain von Mueller kept the news back. He and his crew were royally entertained. He induced the natives, by liberal pay, to careen and clean the cruiser, and on departing undertook to deliver the islanders' mail, which he transferred to one of the intercepted steamers.
The Osterley, en route to Australia, coasted the Cocos. The wreck of the Emden was still on the rocks, and is described as looking like a twisted mass of steel. Two ninepounders were looming from the stern.
