London, January 20.

The news of the Zeppelin raid was published in London at midnight. Previously special constables had been called out, firemen gathered at their stations, and antiaircraft guns manned. Searchlights were playing throughout the evening and there was general expectation that the long-threatened Zeppelins were coming.

A sensation was caused when the news of the attack on Sandringham was received. Fortunately the King had returned to London prior to the outrage, leaving Sandringham on Tuesday afternoon.

The night' was dark, which the Zeppelin chose for it? raid. At Yarmouth places of amusement were in full swing. Many people were in the streets, where the noise of the propellers of the airship first attracted attention. Then the aircraft was seen coming from the north-east. Flashes from a searchlight were occasionally seen. The aircraft crossed the centre of the town, dropping bombs from a low elevation. Hearing the explosions, many streamed out of their houses. Others followed the advice of the authorities, and concealed their families in the basements.
