FALKLANBS NAVAL FIGHT
SINKING OF THE LEIPSIC.
GERMANS' DEATH ROLL.
APPALLING DI SCOV ER Y
(Received January 20, 2 a.m.)
London, January 19.
A naval officer writes as follows regarding the fight at the Falkland Islands : —
! "We raked the Leipsic tore and aft until her upper deck became a shambles. The Leipsic stopped firing, but her flag was still flying. The British commander thought that she was waiting to discharge a torpedo, and instructions were therefore given to continue firing.
"We afterwards learnt the appalling news that -200 members of the Leipsic's crew had fallen into the water, and that they were waiting for us to rescue them. The few further shots that we fired before we made this discovery killed all these men except about a dozen. ''
