MR. RHODES AT KIMBOLTOX

Fkiluing. Tuesday. The Postmaster General, tho Hon P. H. Rhodes, officially visited Kimbolton to-dav, and opened a new post office and public hall- He was entertained to lunch by the Chamber of Commerce. Speaking at the opening. Mr. Rhodes said that the Postal Department was a progressiva Department. They had established a rural delivery in country districts. Thcv bad found motor-cycles too expensive, and were going to substitute motor-cars. Telephones were being run throughout the country where settlers showed a desire for them. "Parcels post rates had been reduced 25 per cent., and the maximum weight carried had been increased to 281b- For the year ende* December 31 the Savings Bank had made a record. In 1907 deposits exceeded withdrawals by £1.228,000; in 1914 deposits exceeded -withdrawals by £1.323.000.

Of the postal staff. 205 had gone to the war. and Department officers had donated over £3000 to patriotic and relief funds.

Mr. Rhodes expressed admiration for the agricultural wealth of th; Kimbolton district.
