BATTLE OF SOISSONS.

GERMAN EXAGGERATIONS.

"SECOND GRAVELO7TE."

(Received January 17. 7.30 p.m.l

Paris, January 16.

In reply to a German official wireless message declaring that the German success at Soissons is comparable with the Prussian victory at Gravelotte, in the war of 1870-1871, and that 5000 French were killed and 5200 taken prisoners, it is semiofficially announced that the French forces consisted of three brigades, and their retirement was not molested.

A brigade comprises two infantry regiments and has a nominal strength of about 8000 combatants.
