BROKEN HILL OUTRAGE.

FOUR PERSONS KILLED. FOUR SERIOUSLY WOUNDED. SECOND ASSAILANT DEAD. By Telegraph Press Association— (Received January 2, 2 a.m.) Syd vet, January 1. The details of the Broken Hill outrage which have come to hand are very meagre, rain interrupting the transmission of the telegrams. Later messages state that four persons were killed, the fourth being an elderly man named James Greig. Eight persons were wounded, including two girls and a boy. Pour were seriously wounded. Millard was shot whilst riding alongside the train track.

There were 1200 passengers aboard the train. The Turks started the attack from an ice-cream cart from which the Turkish flag flew. They then took cover behind the railway embankment within close range, thus making their shooting so deadly.

In making their way from the scene of the attack to the rocks the Turks knocked at the door of a house. On the inmate appearing a few words passed and they .then shot him through the abdomen. After the attack the train was taken to the Silverton Company's eiding, the wounded persons removed and doctors were telephoned for.

So far there are no details as to the identity of the assailants or their reasons. It is believed that it was the outcome of the war with Turkey.

There is great excitement in the town over the outrage'.
