SOUTH AFRICA ALERT. MENACE TO BE ENDED, THE NEW CAMPAIGN. LARGER FORCES NEEDED. (Received January 2, 1.30 a.m.) Pretoria, January 1. An official report states that although the rebellion has been suppressed it is clear that if the rebel leaders in German South-west Africa succeed the .situation may again become acute. It will be necessary ip view of the danger of invasion to employ much larger forces than was at first intended, in order, to destroy the enemy and rebel forces, and prevent a recurrence of the menace to South African peace. The Government is confident that citizens will render in the German Southwest African campaign as willing and loyal service as they did with such brilliant success in the suppression of the recent rebellion. ■•■ A proclamation calls out the first and second classes of the National Reserve in the Transvaal, except in, the Rand, and also in the north-west of Cape Colony. „■ ,-"'
