ALLIES' VIGOROUS OFFENSIVE MOVEMENT.
LARGE NUMBER OF GERMAN TRENCHES CAPTDRED. SUCCESSFUL ARTILLERY WORK. Paris, December 18. An official communique says that as the result of a vigorous offensive the allies have captured several trenches at Auchy, near La Bassee, Loos, and St. Laurent, and the whole of the first line oi trenches at Blangy. Our artillery gained a distinct advantage at Tracy le Val and in the Champagne. The enemy blew up our trench north of Tour de Paris. Three German battalions of infantry then attempted to debouch, but were repulsed. Wellington, December 18. The High Commissioner reports from London on December 18: Paris reports state that the allies have made further progress in Belgium, all counter-attacks by the enemy failing. In the region of Arras the allies made a vigorous offensive movement. , The French captured several trenches in the La Bassee neighbourhood. At Blangy we carried our front over a distance of one kilometre (.62137 of a mile), capturing nearly all the trenches in the enemy's first line. At Tracy la Val, in the Aisne, and Champagne districts, our heavy artillery has had a distinct advantage over that of the enemy. In the Argonne district the Germans blew up one trench. North of Tour de Paris, and also at St. Hubert, in the Meuse region, German infantry attacks were repulsed by the allies.
