INVASION BY THE SEA.
POSITION OF HOKITIKA.
OUTHOUSES WASHED AWAY.
[by TELEGRAPH.—rEKSS association.]
Hokitika, Wednesday. A raging north-west gale last r.ight caused serious encroachment of the sea at the northern portion of the town. From Johnston's the sea washed away a considerable portion of the bank, resulting in a number of outhouses going seaward. The position at present looks very serious owing to a heavy sea breaking and spring tides.
