HOW THE RUSSIAN PURSUIT WAS IMPEDED.
GERMANS DESTROY RAILWAYS AND BRIDGES. ENEMY REINFORCED BY CAVALRY. Petrookad, November 17. It is officially announced that the retreating Germans destroyed railways and bridges wholesale, greatly delaying the pursuit, as they neared their own territory. Thereafter, their extensive network of railways facilitated the rapid transfer of German troops against the Russian left. The movement was covered by strong detachments of cavalry from the western front, and partly reinforced by Austrian cavalry. " The German offensive led to the battles now in progress on the Plock-Lenczyca-Uneioff front, midway between Warsaw and the German frontier. The Russians captured 10 officers and 1000 men south of Lysko, in Galicia.
