SUBURBAN GRIEVANCE.

SITE FOR SLUICING TANK.

Some concern has been displayed by residents in the vicinity of Cornwall Park regarding the selection of an area within the property of the Campbell trustees as a site for a &luicing-tank in connection with the sanitary service of the One-tree Hill Road District. A petition protesting against the use of the site ior this purpose is being prepared for presentation to the Road Board at its meeting on Friday evening, and the promoters purpose forwarding copies of the petition to the Minister for Public Health and to the district health officer.

The chairman of the Road Board, Mr. H. B. Morton, explained yesterday that as only about half the district is now served by the completed portion of the drainage system the approach of summer has made some temporary provision aa urgent necessity. After a very careful examination of suggested sites, with the district health officer, the area in the Cornwall Park property was selected as the most suitable. Mr. Morton stated that the reserve of three acres in which the statue of the late Sir John Campbell stands, and the full width of Manukau Road lie between the site and the nearest dwellings, and every precaution has been taken to guard agauist offence to the residents in the neighbourhood. The building over the sluicing tank and all the arrangements have been made under the supervision of the city engineer and the district health officer, and the experience of Onehunga and other towns in which similar arrangements have been adopted has shown that no cause for complaint exists. Mr. Morton added that extreme need. and the urgent necessity tor measures to protect the health of the district, fully justified the action of the Road Board and of the Health Department in the matter.
